Bias Lawsuit Against Elmhurst University Settled
A former professor said he was let go because of antisemitism. The school explained its decision.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst University last month settled a lawsuit with a former professor who alleged he was let go because of antisemitism.
On Aug. 15, the university and Louis Yoelin indicated in a court document that they agreed to dismiss Yoelin's lawsuit, referring to a settlement agreement.
Because Elmhurst University is a private school, it is not obligated to release the agreement.

Yoelin's attorney, Marc Trent, could not be reached for comment.
In a statement to Patch, the university said Tuesday, "We cannot comment on personnel matters or this dismissed legal claim. Elmhurst University stands behind our policies against discrimination and harassment."

The lawsuit was filed in February in federal court, alleging civil rights violations.
In its response to the lawsuit, the university said it did not keep the professor, Yoelin, because it hired a full-time, tenure-track professor to handle his courses.
Yoelin, who is Jewish, was an adjunct music professor.
In the lawsuit, Yoelin said he engaged in public activism and volunteer work for groups such as the nonprofit Stop Online Antisemitism, which he joined in August 2022. He said he goes on social media to discredit antisemites and antisemitic rhetoric.
