Black Ice Causes Fatal Crash Near Elmhurst: Cops

Ambulance driver loses control, leading to a multi-car crash, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A fatal multi-car crash resulted in a woman's death Saturday at Roosevelt Road near the Interstate 294 interchange, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on westbound Roosevelt, just southeast of Elmhurst's city limit, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim's name was not released, pending notification of her family. A teenage passenger of one of the vehicles was reported as hospitalized in connection with the crash.

The Sheriff's Office said an out-of-service Elite ambulance heading west struck black ice, causing the driver to lose control.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a woman from one of the vehicles got out to inspect the damage when an oncoming Dodge Durango appeared to have lost control on the black ice and struck her.
