Boil Order For Big Part Of Elmhurst South Side
Nicor work leads to a main break, causing a loss of pressure in the system, the city said.
ELMHURST, IL – A boil order is in place for all Elmhurst water customers for a big part of the city's south side, the city said.
As a result of Nicor work in the afternoon, a water main break occurred at Poplar and Crescent avenues, the city said. Residents on the south side reported a loss of water or low water pressure.
The boil order applies to an area bordered by Park Avenue to the north, York Street to the west, Butterfield Road to the south and Interstate 294 to the east.

In a news release, the city said it would take numerous water samples throughout the affected area. The precautionary boil order is required to remain in place for at least 48 hours because of lab testing procedures, the city said.
As soon as the lab confirms the water is safe, the city plans to inform the public, the news release said.

Crews successfully isolated the leak Wednesday night, restoring pressure to the system.
