ELMHURST, IL – The construction of the new Field Elementary School in Elmhurst is "coming together quite nicely," an official said last week.

The project is a bit ahead of schedule and under budget, said Todd Schmidt, facilities director for Elmhurst School District 205.

"Construction is just flying through," Schmidt told the school board. "We didn't get any problems with this site."

He said it would be ready for the new school year in August.

Last year, the district completed the construction of a new Lincoln Elementary on time.

The construction is part of the $168 million in projects that voters approved as part of a referendum in 2018.

At the meeting, Schmidt also spoke about the project at Fischer Elementary School, which has the highest enrollment of Elmhurst's grade schools.

The first phase was a six-classroom addition. Now, the district is working on a media center renovation and the creation of a "makerspace."

"We've installed protective walls around that, so you can't really even tell we are in there," Schmidt said.

That area of the school is expected to be ready for the start of school in August.
