Burglar Confronted In Elmhurst Neighborhood: Cops

While a plumber was working, someone entered his vehicle, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving the burglary of a plumber's work vehicle, a dog attack, retail theft, a disturbance, car burglaries, battery and a fugitive driver. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Burglary of plumber's vehicle

  • A man burglarized a plumber's unlocked work vehicle about 1 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of South Mitchell Avenue. A neighbor confronted the suspect, who then got into the passenger seat of a silver Nissan Rogue. The driver then fled. Nothing appears to have been taken. The man was described as black, 17, 5-foot-11, thin, having shoulder-length dreadlocks, and wearing a white T-shirt.

  • A person said a shepherd mix attacked him while he worked at the dog park on Elm Creek Drive about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. He suffered a minor puncture wound to the left elbow. A report was sent to DuPage County Animal Services.

Retail theft

  • A person told officers he saw a man struggle to carry several bags containing liquor and deodorant about 6 a.m. Monday. When the person confronted him, the man discarded the bags and fled. It was learned the liquor had been stolen from Jewel, 944 S. York St. The theft was captured on surveillance video, with two men involved. The stolen merchandise was returned. One of the men was described as white, 35, having a medium build, brown hair and a beard, and wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans. The other man was described as white, 35, having a large build, dark hair and a beard, and wearing a black and orange baseball cap, a black long-sleeve hoodie, khaki shorts, black socks and white shoes.

Disturbance

  • Police were called about 3 p.m. Tuesday to Napleton Kia, 727 W. Grand Ave. A person was upset and throwing things around the showroom. The person was given a no-trespass notice.

Garage burglary

  • A 26-inch red and brown Trek gravel bicycle and a leaf blower were stolen between 2 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue. The owner said he accidentally left his garage door open. An investigation is pending.

Car burglaries

  • Police responded about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 200 block of North Addison Avenue for a reported car burglary. A witness saw two suspects wearing black hoodies and ski masks leaving the area. A car's window was broken, and the interior was damaged.
  • Someone entered an unlocked car and stole three pairs of sunglasses and a black BB gun from the center console overnight Tuesday in the 900 block of South Riverside Drive.

Battery

  • A person discharged from Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, was uncooperative and struck people with a towel about 5:30 a.m. Monday. The person was given a no-trespass notice.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a car for several violations about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lake and Walnut streets. The driver sped away, last seen heading west on Lake. The driver was described as a white man, having a beard, and wearing a black hat and a red shirt.
