Carjacking At Elmhurst College: Chicago Teen Arrested
A Chicago teenager has been charged after a carjacking at Elmhurst College in January, officials said.

ELMHURST, IL — A 17-year-old from Chicago has been accused of stealing a car at gunpoint from an Elmhurst College parking lot in January, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office said in a release. The teenager has been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking and armed robbery, and has been detained.
According to the State's Attorney's Office, on Jan. 22, the teenager and at least two accomplices traveled to Elmhurst College to steal cars. Two of the men approached a victim who had just exited his vehicle, and stole the car at gunpoint. The suspects then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
The State's Attorney's Office said after the theft a car chase started with the Elmhurst Police Department. The two suspects in the car were able to avoid police. Police started an investigation which then led to the Chicago teenager being charged.

“The Elmhurst Police Department has done some truly exceptional work in identifying the suspect in this case," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a release. "Though it has been several months since the alleged carjacking, the apprehension of this juvenile demonstrates law enforcement's commitment to see that this type of violent crime does not go unpunished."
"Elmhurst police remain committed to the safety of our community and will continue to work toward the identification and apprehension of anyone responsible for this crime," Chief of Police Michael Ruth said in a release.
