Children with Hearing Loss Celebrate Graduation May 17th

Graduation season is here and our students are excited for the upcoming Recognition Ceremony. On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Child’s Voice families, alumni, and partners will gather to hear from our students and celebrate those graduating from our School Program.
“What’s exceptional about our Recognition Ceremony is that our students have put in countless hours to achieve their success. Our graduates all give speeches at 5- and 6-years old! So many adults, myself included, couldn’t do that in front of hundreds of people,” shared Principal Wendy Adler. “This Ceremony is something we all look forward to each year. It is the event where parents, siblings, friends, and grandparents can see their graduate on stage singing and dancing. It’s wonderful to see the results of years of hard work.”

Child’s Voice helps children with hearing loss learn to listen and speak. Students wear hearing aids and/or cochlear implants and programs use a child-focused, research-based curriculum, with the end goal of transitioning graduates back to their neighborhood schools. Our School Program helps children with hearing loss from over 50 different zip codes in the Chicago-land area.

In front of 150-200 guests, each graduate shares a speech about their time at Child’s Voice and their excitement to transition back to their local, neighborhood schools. All current School Program students perform songs and dance. These children range in age from 3 – 8 years old, all with hearing loss and wearing a hearing aid and/or cochlear implant.

The celebration will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Wood Dale Junior High Auditorium. All are welcome to attend this special event and tickets are complimentary. For questions, please contact Child’s Voice at events@childsvoice.org or (630) 595-8200.
