Children's Book Set At Elmhurst School With 'Weird' Staircases

"Elmhurst is great for the imagination," the local author told Patch.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst resident Caryn Rivadeneira has written a novel that features Lincoln Elementary School.

Her latest book is "Frankinschool: Monster Match," released by Red Chair Press. It is written for children 7 to 11.

In an email to Patch, Rivadeneira described the story as a universal story of friendship, forgiveness and the "power of pretend."

"In fact, the story was born out of an author-visit mishap when my son was a student there at Lincoln and then enhanced by my own curiosity about the old Lincoln's weird staircases and mysterious attic," Rivadeneira said in the email. "The mind wanders while waiting for parent-teacher conferences to start."

The old Lincoln was torn down and rebuilt more than a year ago.

Two other books are in Rivadeneira's series. One is set in a fictitious York High School and the other in the "old" library, she said.

She said she often chooses local places and spaces for inspiration.

"Elmhurst is great for the imagination," Rivadeneira said.

Growing up, Rivadeneira attended Jackson Elementary School and then Timothy Christian Schools, both in Elmhurst. Her children are on the Lincoln-Bryan Middle School-York track.
