The City of Elmhurst, in partnership with Elmhurst Cool Cities Coalition, invites the public to attend “Your Trees, Your Community,” a free program led by Jan Roehll, DuPage County Program Director for The Conservation Foundation, at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at City Hall, 209 North York.

Learn how to select, plant and grow trees as a means to reduce home energy consumption, reduce flooding and improve air quality. Additional workshop topics will include using rain barrels, proper mulch placement and how to “leave no leaves” by composting and using them in your own yard.

“Rain harvested through rain barrels can be used to water lawns and gardens, thereby saving money on water bills and not over‐taxing the water supply during drought,” says Jan Roehll.

Learn how rain barrels work, how easy they are to install, and how to make the most of a multi‐barrel system. Discounted rain barrels can be purchased through the city for $57.
