Darryl is a cancer survivor, having beat testicular cancer about a dozen years ago. However, a cancer diagnosis returned in the form of multiple myeloma. As a lifelong athlete, and given his prior cancer treatment, Darryl knows well the commitment required to win this race and faces this challenge with grace and tenacity, His discipline and regimen have been working and a stem cell transplant was successful. However, continued progress is needed in this fight in the form of extensive medical care. The extended and advanced cancer treatment, and related medical issues, have been and will remain quite expensive for the foreseeable future.
Through the ups and downs of the last few years, Susan has managed the household, provided full-time care for Darryl and continued to serve as the primary caregiver for their three children - one a junior at Grand Valley State University and two current students at York High School. These responsibilities have limited Susan’s ability to work outside the family. This coupled with Darryl’s extended disability and the expenses associated with the prolonged and advanced cancer treatment and related medical issues have resulted in financial challenges. While the Mays’ family, friends and church have certainly stepped in to assist Darryl and Susan along the way, the financial need remains great to provide Darryl with the best outcomes and support his family along the way.
