Coronavirus: 35 Deaths So Far At Elmhurst Hospital
The number of virus cases at the hospital is slightly down, continuing a two-week trend.

ELMHURST, IL — As of Monday, Elmhurst Hospital reported 35 deaths of patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. That's seven more than a week ago.
Over the last couple weeks, the hospital has seen slight reductions in the number of patients with the coronavirus. As of Monday, it has 57 such patients. That is down from 60 last week and 62 two weeks ago.
Since March 24, 146 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital after treatment for confirmed cases of the coronavirus. The hospital has been more open about its situation than the Amita chain, which has hospitals in Hinsdale and La Grange. Amita has declined to release hospital-specific numbers on coronavirus deaths and started releasing case numbers after Patch informed the chain that Elmhurst Hospital was doing so.

According to the DuPage County Health Department, Elmhurst had 118 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of Sunday. That is up from 84 a week earlier, a 40 percent increase. The latest number is more than six times the 19 that were reported in Elmhurst on April 1.
Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.

DuPage County does not report deaths by municipality, but the state revealed Sunday that 10 residents at Lexington of Elmhurst nursing home have died from the coronavirus.
As of Sunday, DuPage County had 2,447 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 131 deaths. Naperville, the county's biggest town, has the highest number of cases, with 171.
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 43,903. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 1,933 Illinois residents.
Nationally, nearly 940,000 have caught the virus, and more than 53,000 have died from it, as of Sunday morning, thousands more than less than 24 hours earlier.
