Democrats Pour Money In Elmhurst Lawmaker Race

Two years ago, Republican Mazzochi cruised to re-election over a well-funded Democratic opponent.

State Democratic groups contributed $107,000 in recent days to the campaign of Jenn Ladisch Douglass, who is running for the Elmhurst-based state representative seat. Her opponent is Rep. Deanne Mazzochi, a Republican.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, state Democratic organizations have donated $107,000 to their candidate in the Elmhurst-based House district, which also includes parts of Hinsdale.

That's in addition to the $65,000 that the groups contributed to the candidate, Jenn Ladisch Douglass of Elmhurst, in the last quarter.

Her opponent is Rep. Deanne Mazzochi, an Elmhurst Republican who took office in 2018.

In recent years, the Elmhurst-based House district has been seen as a battleground. But Mazzochi took 54 percent of the vote in 2020 against Clarendon Hills Democrat Jennifer Zordani, who took hundreds of thousands of dollars from Democratic organizations. And that was considered a good year for Democrats nationwide, especially in suburbs.

With President Joe Biden's approval ratings sagging, Mazzochi is likely running in a better environment this time around.

Mazzochi has received $22,000 from her party since the last quarter. She also has received tens of thousands in contributions from special interests, as incumbents of both parties typically do.

The election is Nov. 8.
