Driver Stopped for Unsafe Load Had Stolen Ladders, DUI Warrant

A passenger acknowledged he and the driver had taken four ladders from Home Depot, police say.

Elmhurst police stopped a truck July 27 for speeding and carrying an unsafe load at St. Charles and Interstate 290.

The driver, David Berkshire, age 50 of the 3600 block of Bailey, Plano, didn’t have a valid driver’s license, and he also had a no bond warrant for a DUI, according to Elmhurst police.

There were four ladders and 11 shelving beams in the truck bed. A passenger in the front seat, James Anderson, age 70 of the 400 block of West Lake Street, Northlake, acknowledged he and Berkshire had the ladders July 26 from Home Depot in Northlake, police reported.

Andersen was charged with theft-possession of stolen property and released on bond.

Berkshire was processed and charged with state charges for theft-possession of stolen property, speeding, no valid driver’s license, no front plate and unsafe projecting load, police reported. He was taken to Dupage County Jail.
