Drunk Driver Causes 5-Car Crash With 3 Kids In Car: Cops
A Bensenville man was arrested in Elmhurst after causing an accident while drunk driving with three of his children in the car, police said.

ELMHURST, IL — A Bensenville man was arrested in Elmhurst after causing an accident while drunk driving with three of his children in the car, police said. Rulin Palacios-Velez, 35, was arrested at 8:20 p.m. Aug. 21 after causing a five-car crash at Route 83 and North Avenue.
Elmhurst Deputy Chief Michael McLean said Palacios-Velez was determined to be at fault for the traffic crash. The crash was a rear-end collision in which Palacios-Velez's car struck several stopped cars on northbound Route 83.
Palacios-Velez had three children in his vehicle, ages 12, 9 and 8. Police said two of the children did have visible, but non-life threatening injuries. All of the children were taken to Elmhurst Hospital by ambulance for examination and treatment.

Palacios-Velez was charged with aggravated DUI, unlawful possession of a controlled substance (tested positive for cocaine), endangering the life of a child, driving while license suspended, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, leaving the scene of accident and failure to render aid after an accident. He was taken to DuPage County Jail for the charges.
According to the DuPage County Jail website, Palacios-Velez will next appear in court on Sept. 12.
