ELMHURST, IL – A woman driving a getaway car led officers from Elmhurst and elsewhere on a high-speed chase Monday after she and an accomplice stole $1,700 worth of clothing from a Naperville store, police said.

Arrested were Arterria Lipsey, 32, of Minneapolis, and Shataya Connor, 28, of Chicago, DuPage County prosecutors said in a news release.

About 7 p.m., Naperville police were called to the Alo Yoga store at 19 W. Jefferson Ave., where authorities said the theft occurred.

Shortly after, an Elmhurst police officer found the women traveling east on Interstate 290 in a black Dodge Durango driven by Lipsey, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors alleged that when the officer activated emergency lights and a siren, Lipsey did not stop and instead fled, reaching speeds of 82 mph. The officer ended the pursuit, then later rejoined after Hillside police had picked it up, according to prosecutors' news release.

The pursuit ended on southbound Interstate 294 after the Durango drove over spike strips deployed by Oak Brook police, and Lipsey was taken into custody, authorities said.

The women were charged with burglary and retail theft. Lipsey faces the additional charge of aggravated fleeing and eluding.

A DuPage County judge ordered Lipsey to stay in jail until trial. Connor was released.

"What I find particularly upsetting in this case is the allegation that Arterria Lipsey, who was driving the getaway car, then led police on a dangerous high-speed chase, putting the officers involved and countless innocent motorists at great risk," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.
