DuPage Prosecutors To Monitor Polls
Official says the county wants to prevent any voter intimidation at the polls.
ELMHURST, IL – DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said Wednesday that he plans to deploy dozens of prosecutors and investigators to respond to reports of suspected irregularities during next Tuesday's election.
In a news release, Berlin said he has done this for every election since he took office in 2010. He said he would be in close contact with the county's clerk's office, which is in charge of the county's polls.
“Free and fair elections are the bedrock of our democracy, and my office is well prepared to ensure that anyone who wishes to exercise their right to vote is allowed to do so free from harassment or intimidation,” Berlin said in the release. "(W)e will be on the lookout for any allegations of voter fraud including individuals who attempt to obstruct or interfere with the right of any person to vote; persons who attempt to vote more than once or present false identification; or tampering with voting equipment. Anyone suspected of engaging in this type of behavior will not only be turned away at the polls, but will also face a possible felony prosecution."
