Elmhurst Artists' Guild Fall Member Show

Elmhurst Artists' Guild members are exhibiting their newest works and competing for prizes in the Guild's Fall Members' Show.

Elmhurst Artists’ Guild members are exhibiting their newest works and competing for prizes in the Guild’s Fall Members’ Show being held in the EAG gallery from September 15 through October 23. The gallery is located at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst.
Prizes are awarded during an artists’ reception, free and open to the public, in the gallery, Friday, September 18, from 7 to 9 pm. More than 50 entries, displaying greatly varying styles, form and media, are on exhibit. Judging the show’s entries is performed by an outside Chicago-area artist or gallery owner.

For the member shows, each member can enter one piece not previously shown in the EAG gallery. Included in this show’s entries is the oil painting “Leaves 2” by Paul Callahan, a professional artist working in oil and watercolor (paulcallahanstudios.com). It is one of his “reflection” paintings based on his wanderings through Morton Arboretum, where he took numerous photographs along the DuPage River. “A difficulty I had with this piece,” he said, “was that painting the leaves alone took so much time. I impatiently waited for them to dry so that I could paint the bleached grasses covering them.”

Another entry is Bert Cohn’s “Entanglement,” a photograph of a subject matter that he leaves to the viewer to figure out. He indicated that his photographs reflect the world as he sees it, focusing on interesting perspectives and unusual compositions. “Sometimes,” he said, “there is some embellishment and a degree of fantasy.” Cohn is retired, after working for over 50 years as a consulting engineer.
