ELMHURST, IL – King Transmission in Elmhurst is holding off on a planned expansion, citing the economy.

The business at 180 W. Grand Ave. let the city know of its decision in a letter this week.

"As much as we would like to finalize our drawings and start construction, we have some reservations due to the current business environment," said Joseph Perrotta, King's secretary and general counsel.

Specifically, he said, a sharp rise in gas and oil prices has dramatically increased product and parts costs.

"In addition, we find ourselves in an unprecedented position regarding procuring automotive parts as well as retaining and finding new personnel," Perrotta said.

He said King is still looking forward to expanding in Elmhurst, but it wants to err on the side of caution.

The business is asking for an extension from the city to build the addition.

The City Council's Development, Planning and Zoning Committee plans to take up the issue at its meeting Monday.

The council approved the addition last July.
