Elmhurst To Celebrate Nation's 250th Birthday
Local organizations are offering educational and fun events for all ages, residents and visitors, the city said.
ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst is taking part in the year-long celebration of America250, the nation's 250th anniversary.
The celebration, which kicked off with a special event at the Elmhurst History Museum on Jan. 11, will bring together local organizations and businesses that are assembling events to take place throughout Elmhurst, according to a city news release.
From traditions like the Memorial Day Parade to a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, the America250 celebrations will offer educational and fun events for all ages, residents and visitors alike, the city said. The celebration is the result of the work of a specially commissioned America250 Planning Committee.

"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reflect on our shared history and celebrate the spirit of our community," Mayor Scott Levin said in the statement. "We invite everyone to join us in making this milestone unforgettable."
To help commemorate the journey, attendees can pick up an Explore Elmhurst America250 Passport to track the events they attend throughout the year, for a chance to win a prize.

The passport will be available online for home printing at ExploreElmhurst.com after Feb. 1, as well as for pickup at City Hall and select participating organizations. Exclusive Elmhurst America250 merchandise will also be available for purchase at the Elmhurst Public Library.
