Elmhurst Cops Chase Theft Suspect Near Community Center: Police

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst officers on Tuesday morning chased a theft suspect in north Elmhurst before arresting him near a business, police said.

About 9 a.m., police received a call about the theft of property from a home on West Avenue. An officer saw the suspect's car and tried to stop it, but the suspect did not comply, police said.

The man drove to a dead end near the local park district's Wagner Community Center, which is off West Avenue. The man got out and ran into a wooded area, police said.

Officers chased him across Lake Street and arrested him in a business parking lot on the north side of the street about 9:15 a.m., police said.

As a precaution, Wagner Community Center, Emerson Elementary School and Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church were briefly placed on a soft lockdown to ensure the buildings' exteriors were secure, police said.
