ELMHURST, IL – A major crash last week has prompted two Elmhurst aldermen to request the city to evaluate the intersection in question for safety improvements.

On April 4, the driver of a flatbed semi-truck on Armitage Avenue ran a yield sign and struck a minivan, aldermen Michael Bram and Chris Jensen said in a memo.

"The neighbors in this area feel that there have been many near misses as well as accidents at this intersection," said the aldermen, who represent northeastern Ward 3.

Classified as a collector street, Van Auken has a higher volume of cars and pedestrians and is designated a "Safe Route to School," they said.

"Since there are no sidewalks in the area, it increases the possibility of vehicular and pedestrian conflicts...," the aldermen said.
