Elmhurst D205 Settles With Custodian
The employee filed a grievance after being passed up for a promotion, according to an agreement.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 last week settled with a custodian who was passed up for a promotion.
Patch obtained the three-page agreement through a public records request.
The grievance was filed on behalf of the custodian by his union, Service Employees International Union CTW Local 73.

In August 2022, the custodian applied for and was not selected as lead custodian, according to the agreement. The union contested the denial.
Under the agreement, the union withdrew the grievance in return for the custodian getting $1,750.

The district does not admit fault.
The school board unanimously approved the settlement at its meeting last week.
The district denied Patch's request for the custodian's grievance. It cited the exemption under the open records law allowing it to withhold documents related to the adjudication of employee grievances.
