Elmhurst Dealership Unsure What Happened To Car: Police

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a dealership's missing car, fired workers, a fake apartment scam, stolen property and fugitive drivers. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports;

Unsure of car's status

• An employee at Napleton Kia, 745 W. Lake St., told police Friday about a missing black 2025 Acura Integra, going back to mid-December. The victim cannot be certain whether the car was loaned out. An investigation is pending.

Fired workers

• Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave., reported Thursday a theft that it said involved fired employees. The crime was believed to have occurred Dec. 15.

Scam

• A resident in the 300 block of South Berkley Avenue told police Thursday that he was the victim of email phishing. The result was several unauthorized transactions from a nonprofit group called CHRISTS, which helps poor students. The resident was the group's treasurer.

Fake apartment

• A resident in the 100 block of North Haven Road wired money April 6 for a security deposit on an apartment that did not exist.

Stolen property

• A cash register was found Sunday on the side of the road near Route 83 and Lake Street. It was determined to be from a burglary at a Northlake smoke shop. The register was given to Northlake police.

Fugitive driver

• An officer tried to stop the driver of a gray Hyundai Accent for not driving with headlights about 2:30 a.m. Thursday at York Street and Robert Palmer Drive. The driver sped away. Police later discovered that the car was stolen in River Grove.
• A driver stopped for an officer about 4 a.m. Saturday at York Street and Wrightwood Avenue and handed over his driver's license. The man then fled and was last seen headed east on Interstate 290 from St. Charles Road. An investigation is pending.
