Elmhurst DUI Suspect With 22-Month-Old: Cops

The driver's blood-alcohol level was 2½ times the legal limit, local police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police on Sunday arrested a drunk driver who was with his wife and a 22-month-old child, authorities said.

Alexis Lara, 24, of Addison, was charged with four counts of aggravated DUI and several misdemeanor offenses, including endangering the health or life of a child, police said.

About 10 p.m., Elmhurst police were told about a disturbance involving a woman striking the window of a dark SUV near Schiller Street and Hampshire Drive, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

Officers saw a car matching the description veering toward the opposite lane of traffic, police said. Lara was stopped at Schiller and Clinton Avenue.

Lara had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech, police said. He was said to have smelled of alcohol.

Police said they found three empty Modelo beer bottles in the car.

Lara's blood-alcohol content was reported at .20, which is 2½ times the state's legal limit.

Lara has two previous DUI convictions and is on probation for aggravated DUI, police said.
