Elmhurst Elementary School Celebrates Pi Day

Hawthorne Elementary School will hold a contest where students recite the digits of Pi. The contest will be held on Pi Day, March 14.

ELMHURST, IL- For the sixth year in a row, REACH teacher Geri Sorrentino will sponsor Pi Day at Hawthorne Elementary School in Elmhurst. Pi Day is celebrated on March 14, since the first three digits of Pi are 3.14.

According to a release from the District, anyone who memorizes 20 digits or more of Pi will have their names recorded on an International Pi Day website and on Hawthorne's website and newsletter. The top 14 reciters will be pictured and named; and the top reciter from each grade and the top reciter of the school will receive pies.

Last year, there were 137 students who recited the digits of Pi.

This contest is open to any student in grades 1 through 5. The recital will take place at 11:05 a.m. March 14 in the Hawthorne Elementary School library.
