Elmhurst Fire Chief Retires: City Memo

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Fire Chief Tom Freeman, who took that position five years ago, is retiring Friday.

This news was released in a memo as part of the City Council's agenda packet for Monday's meeting. Dated Thursday, the memo is from City Manager Jim Grabowski.

Grabowski said in the memo that Freeman had submitted his retirement notice, although he did not say when. Grabowski requested the City Council appoint Deputy Fire Chief Bill Anaszewicz as the acting fire chief.

Freeman became chief in October 2016, replacing Jeff Bacidore, who served the fire department for 31 years.

Before coming to Elmhurst, Freeman served as the fire chief for the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District for 22 years. He has been a firefighter for nearly 50 years.

Freeman couldn't be reached for immediate comment.

Freeman's time with the fire department ends just before Monday's swearing-in of Alderman Scott Levin as mayor.
