Last May, Elmhurst aldermen enacted a new ordinance for short-term rentals such as Airbnbs after residents complained about disturbances.

In December, an Elmhurst man was cited on a charge of violating the city's short-term rental rules. He may have been the first.

The man lived in the 500 block of West Comstock Avenue, across from his short-term rental.

On Christmas Day, police said they were called about a parking complaint and a related domestic violence arrest at the short-term rental.

The city learned that the house exceeded the maximum number of occupants permitted under the new short-term rental law.

Under the regulations, occupancy in such homes is barred from exceeding the maximum number of people allowed in such dwellings.
