Elmhurst Hospital Passes Virus Milestone
The facility sets another record in the number of coronavirus cases.

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Hospital just passed the 100 mark for the first time in the number of coronavirus patients.
On Thursday, the hospital reported it was taking care of 105 patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus. That's up by eight from the previous day.
Of the hospital's patients, 60, or 57 percent, are unvaccinated, according to its report. Thirty-six are vaccinated. The hospital has yet to collect and post data for 19 others. More than 70 percent of the county's population is fully vaccinated, according to the county health department.

In the last day, one person has died from the coronavirus at the hospital. The total is 246 since the beginning of the pandemic, an increase of 10 in the last week.
Elmhurst's sister facility, Edward Hospital in Naperville, reported that it was treating 107 coronavirus patients Thursday. That's down from last week's 123, which was the hospital's record.

Since March 2020, the hospital has discharged 2,642 COVID-19 patients, more than 100 of them in the last week.
Elmhurst Hospital serves an area far larger than Elmhurst. But the city's numbers are an indicator of what's happening. Last week, Elmhurst experienced 559 new coronavirus cases. That was a drop from the previous week's 599, the local record.
