Elmhurst Hospital Sees Most Virus Patients In Nearly Year
The city as a whole is seeing big hikes in new coronavirus cases.

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Hospital on Tuesday was treating the most coronavirus patients in 11 months, a reflection of the pandemic's latest surge.
In a news release, the hospital said it was taking care of 51 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Forty of the patients are unvaccinated, while eight others are vaccinated. Three are undetermined.
The hospital last saw as many as 51 coronavirus patients on Jan. 15. The hospital's high was 84 on Nov. 17, 2020.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 213 people have died of the coronavirus at the hospital, with the total increasing by two in the last week, according to hospital statistics.
The hospital serves an area far greater than Elmhurst, but the city's increase in cases is telling. Last week, Elmhurst experienced 110 new coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The week before, the city saw 151 new cases, the highest number in nearly a year.
