Elmhurst Hospital Sees New Low In Virus Cases

This is the first such achievement in nearly five months.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst Hospital on Tuesday recorded the lowest number of coronavirus patients in nearly five months.

According to its latest daily report, the hospital was treating five patients with the coronavirus. The last time it had such a low number was on Oct. 19.

In January, the hospital reached a record high of coronavirus patients, at 105.

Of the hospital's current coronavirus patients, three are unvaccinated and two are vaccinated, according to its report.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 287 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 have died at the hospital, including one in the last week.

Elmhurst's sister facility, Edward Hospital in Naperville, reported that it was treating nine coronavirus patients Tuesday. That's down from a record of 123 in January.

Since March 2020, Elmhurst Hospital has discharged 2,894 COVID-19 patients, 10 of them in the last week.

Elmhurst Hospital serves an area far larger than Elmhurst. But the city's numbers are an indicator of what's happening. Last week, Elmhurst experienced 30 new coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department. That was a decrease from the previous week's 49.

The city reached a weekly high of 599 in January.
