Elmhurst House Fire Sparks $17,000 in Damages

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire because it was being remodeled.

A fire in a two-story Elmhurst home Friday morning cost $15,000 in damage to the house’s structure, and it burned $2,000-worth of the home’s contents.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire because it was being remodeled, according to the Elmhurst Fire Department.

The fire was most likely the result of improper storage of staining materials and debris, though investigators are still looking into the fire’s origin.

Elmhurst Fire Department personnel were dispatched at 4:48 a.m. Friday to the house in the 400 block of S. Kenilworth, according to the fire department. Mutual Aid companies were also brought in.

The fire was located on the first floor of the home, and firefighters extinguished flames in the foyer area near the stairs to the second floor. The fire was under control by 4:56 a.m., according to the fire department.

The home’s damaged contents were construction materials.
