Elmhurst Kitchen Remodel & Custom Archway Lead to Design Award

An Elmhurst kitchen remodel, completed by Normandy Designers Ashley Noethe and Troy Pavelka, impressed the judges during an annual design competition hosted by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) of Greater Chicagoland. The project, which includes an open-concept layout and custom archway, was given a Remodeling Excellence Award for its aesthetics, innovation and craftsmanship.

“An open-concept design is an extremely popular request. However, there are some challenges when a load-bearing wall needs to be removed,” said Noethe. “In this case, we used a structural support beam and then created a custom arched pass-through to open up the kitchen and dining area to each other.”

“The beauty of the archway is that it maintains visual interest and functionality,” added Noethe. “In fact, there are plenty of storage and entertaining amenities, including a coffee bar.”

This Elmhurst kitchen remodel, which also boasts white custom cabinetry, quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances, was one of 13 renovations to receive a Remodeling Excellence Award. Each award recipient was evaluated by an impartial panel of judges, comprised of industry experts. The judging criteria included problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation and degree of difficulty.
