ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst man pushed a neighbor's friend down his back porch steps earlier this month after she complained about his dog defecating in her friend's yard, police said.

According to a police report, the 41-year-old victim was with her friend in her friend's backyard in the 200 block of North Walnut Street. Their 3-year-old girls were there.

One of the girls stepped in a pile of feces that the victim's friend believed was left by her neighbor's dog. The friend told the victim that she was having trouble with the neighbor's dog going into her yard, police said.

So the 41-year-old went up the stairs of the back porch of the neighbor's and knocked on the door. The woman told the neighbor, 60-year-old William T. McDonnell, about what happened and demanded he take responsibility for his dog, police said.

McDonnell ordered the woman to "get the f--- off of my property," according to the report. After he slammed the door, the woman knocked again.

When he opened the door, he pushed her with both hands, causing her to fall backward down the back porch steps, with the girls as witnesses, police said.

An officer said he noticed red marks on the woman.

In an interview with police, McDonnell acknowledged the woman, whom he did not know, confronted him about "dog poop." He told officers he answered the back door three times.

The third time, McDonnell said he touched the woman with both hands and continued to advance forward, according to the report. He said he did not mean for her to fall and that he only wanted her to leave, police said.

McDonnell was arrested on a charge of battery.

The police report was obtained through a public records request.
