Elmhurst Man Batters Woman Near Store's Doors: Police

In another case, eight windows are broken on a building that a developer plans to demolish.

A 51-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 700 block of South Poplar Avenue was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on charges of battery and criminal trespassing, local police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a battery outside a store, an unresponsive man, damage, soliciting without a license, a woman who refused to leave the hospital, theft and DUI. Here is information from the latest reports:

Battery

  • A 51-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 700 block of South Poplar Avenue was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on charges of battery and criminal trespassing. Police said the man entered a car that appeared similar to his at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave. A woman in the backseat fled, with the man pursuing her before battering her outside the store's doors. He was released.

Damage

  • Someone broke eight windows overnight Tuesday on the first floor of a building in the 100 block of West Virginia Street. The building department was notified. A developer plans to demolish older buildings on the property and build a residential complex.
  • Someone damaged the front window of a house and the windshield of a car between 6:30 p.m. and midnight Tuesday in the 400 block of East Butterfield Road.

Unresponsive

  • Medics and officers responded to an unresponsive man about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of North Adele Street. The man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Soliciting without a license

  • A Lisle man and a Chicago man, both 27, were cited about 6 p.m. Tuesday on charges of soliciting without a license. They were in the 900 block of South Hillside Avenue.

Theft

  • Someone stole a large black 3-gallon drum containing scrap metal between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Jan. 17 at Semblex, 900 N. Church Road.

Refuses to leave

  • A woman was discharged shortly before midnight Tuesday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, but refused to leave. She was given a no-trespass notice.

DUI

  • A 25-year-old Villa Park man was arrested shortly after midnight Jan. 19 at York Street and Grantley Avenue on charges of DUI, improper lane usage and transportation of open alcohol by a driver. He was taken to the police station and then released.
