Elmhurst Man Follows Pedestrians Home In His Car: Cops

Police were called. He was charged with disorderly conduct.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving disorderly conduct, trespassing, burglary, retail theft and violation of a protection order. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Disorderly conduct

  • A 27-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 400 block of North Emroy Avenue was arrested about 3 p.m. Thursday on a disorderly conduct charge. Police said the man approached victims who were walking and followed them home in his car. The incident occurred in the 200 block of North Highview Avenue, police said. The man was released.

Trespassing

  • A 39-year-old homeless man who long had an Elmhurst address was arrested about 3 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of North West Avenue on a trespassing charge. Police said he violated a no-trespass notice. Until recently, police listed the man as living in the 600 block of West Fay Avenue. He has been arrested repeatedly over the years. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • A 55-year-old Bensenville man was arrested about 4 p.m. Saturday on charges of trespassing and possession of open alcohol. Police said the incident occurred at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The man, who was said to be drunk, was released.

Burglary

  • Ethan Bonifield, 18, of Glen Ellyn, was arrested about noon Sunday on one count of burglary and two counts of retail theft. Police said Bonifield stole several pairs of shoes at Shoe Carnival, 195 S. Route 83. He was also alleged to have stolen items from Whole Foods, 215 S. Route 83. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Violating protective order

  • A 50-year-old Bellwood man was arrested shortly after noon Sunday on a charge of violating an order of protection. Police said the incident occurred at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. The man was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Retail theft

  • A person stole a tester vape about 6 p.m. Saturday at iVape Bar, 261 N. York St.
  • Two people were seen on camera stealing merchandise at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. It occurred about 1:30 p.m. Aug. 9. The theft was reported six days later.
