ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst man was named a nonprofit group's top male weight loser in Illinois in 2024.

Richard Hails lost 57.4 pounds through TOPS, or Taking Off Pounds Sensibly, which focuses on weight loss.

As a result of his achievement, Hails was named the 2024 TOPS Illinois King. He reached his goal weight, according to a news release from the group.

Hails attributed his weight loss success to the support of fellow members.

In Illinois, TOPS members lost a total of 11,147 pounds.

TOPS, which started in 1948, is promoting Hails' success with the New Year, a time when people are looking to lose weight.
