ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst man was accused of threatening a woman with a knife after he came home late at night from his local office, police said.

The 45-year-old man lives in the 400 block of South Kenilworth Avenue, one of the city's most expensive neighborhoods.

Through a public records request, Patch obtained the police report on Wednesday.

The man was charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault. But DuPage County prosecutors dropped the case last week because the alleged victim declined to come forward, according to court records.

About 11 p.m. on Dec. 1, a 43-year-old woman called 911 to say the man threatened her with a knife and then went into the shower, according to the report.

She left the front door unlocked for officers and went into another room with her children.

Officers opened the door and asked whether anyone was inside. The man showed up at the top of the stairs with a towel around his waist, police said.

Officers said they repeatedly asked the man to come down the stairs, but the man would respond, "For what?"

The officers then went upstairs and handcuffed him, sitting him down.

After an officer read him his rights, he continued to ask why he was in handcuffs. He said he would not talk and that police could speak with his lawyer, according to the report.

But the man continued to talk, repeating himself and unable to grasp why he was in handcuffs, police said.

Told about the woman's allegations, police said the man laughed and said, "Is that what (she) is saying? This makes it better. I hope this was recorded."

Asked whether the man had held a knife, he denied that he had, police said.

The officers let the man dress and then took him to the police station, where he was detained in the lockup.

The police report said the man was intoxicated and that officers had responded to a previous domestic disturbance at the address.

Police said they identified the weapon – a 13-inch knife with a black handle. It was in a bedroom dresser drawer, police said

Police said they were called again to the house for a "verbal domestic" shortly before midnight Jan. 20. The man was charged with violating his pretrial release because he was not supposed to be at the house, police said.

He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
