Elmhurst To Pay Respects To Late Police Chief
A memorial ceremony and procession are planned for the chief.

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst Police Department plans a memorial ceremony for Police Chief Michael Ruth, who died last Monday.
The event is set for 10 a.m. Friday on the grounds of the police station, 125 E. First St. The public is invited. The city said it expects the ceremony to be well attended.
The ceremony will be recorded and posted to the city's YouTube page, ElmhurstTV.

A procession will be held in Ruth's honor. The public is invited to line the route at 11 a.m. The procession will travel south on York Street from Palmer Drive to Roosevelt Road.
Ruth, who died while recovering from a medical procedure, was Elmhurst's police chief for 10 years.

He served 44 years in law enforcement. He started as a dispatcher in Alsip and then was an officer in Hometown.
He joined the Skokie Police Department in 1981, where he served in many roles, rising to the rank of commander in 2010.
Ruth was the police chief in Countryside from 2010 to 2012.
