The woman got out of the car with the two children and went inside the apartment, violating the officer's commands to stay.

"Let them in the house," Love was quoted as saying.

The officer feared that the woman was going into the house to get a weapon, police said.

Police said that as the officer tried to pull the woman out of the house, the man said, "Why you grabbing her?"

The man then tried to grab the officer's hands, according to the report.

Three minutes after the stop, another officer showed up, attempting to help apprehend Love.

Love struck the officer in the face and pushed him to the ground, where the officer hit his head on the pavement, police said.

After three more officers arrived, Love was handcuffed, but he made it difficult for police to put him in a squad car, the report said.

The woman refused to leave the apartment and identify herself.

Love was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, then to the DuPage County Jail.

After the incident, police said they issued a chronic nuisance letter to the renters and owners of the property in the 600 block of North West Avenue. Such a letter requires a response with a corrective plan.
