Elmhurst School Plans Addition For Another Grade

The school is in a district that includes a small part of Elmhurst.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 runs the public schools in most, but not all, of Elmhurst.

A small part of southwestern Elmhurst is served by Salt Creek School District 48, which is based in Villa Park.

One of the district's three schools is in Elmhurst. Salt Creek Elementary at 980 S. Riverside Drive serves students from pre-kindergarten to first grade.

About 150 students attend the elementary school, which has been on Riverside Drive since 1989. The district's total enrollment is nearly 500, far smaller than District 205's more than 8,000.

The district is now looking to expand the Elmhurst elementary to second graders.

Because of this, the district is proposing a 4,400-square-foot addition.

The Elmhurst City Council's Development, Planning and Zoning Committee is set to review the proposal at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
