Elmhurst Seeing More Virus Cases: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw the most new coronavirus cases in a week since mid-August, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 4,979 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 75 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 53 new cases. The numbers remain high compared to most of the summer.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 70. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 106 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 91 in Darien, 98 in La Grange Park, 103 in DuPage County, 104 in Hinsdale, 112 in Clarendon Hills and Western Springs, 113 in suburban Cook County, 115 in Burr Ridge and 132 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,612,129, up 1.4 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 24,783.

Nationally, 42.8 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 684,884 people have died from the virus in the United States.
