Elmhurst Sees Another New Low In Virus Cases: County

ELMHURST, IL — For the second week in a row, Elmhurst saw a new low since late July in coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 5,155 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 27 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 30 new cases.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 70. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.4 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 110 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 95 in Darien, 104 in La Grange Park, 108 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 116 in Clarendon Hills, 118 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County, 119 in Burr Ridge and 137 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,695,524, a 0.9 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,771.

Nationally, 45.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.2 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 743,410 people have died from the virus in the United States.
