Elmhurst Sees Biggest Virus Hike In 4 Months: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw 85 new coronavirus cases in the last week, the largest weekly increase since early April, according to statistics from the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 4,587 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 34 cases.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 68, as it has been for months. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 98.1 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 85 in Darien, 91.4 in La Grange Park, 95 in DuPage County, 95.7 in Hinsdale, 102.9 in Western Springs, 104.8 in Clarendon Hills, 105.3 in suburban Cook County, 108.7 in Burr Ridge and 124.4 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,457,667, up 1.4 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 23,594.

Nationally, 36.4 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2.1 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 617,787 people have died from the virus in the United States.
