Elmhurst Sees Drop In Virus Rate For 2nd Week In Row: County

The city experiences one more coronavirus death in the last week.

ELMHURST, IL — For the second week in a row, Elmhurst has seen a drop in its percentage hike in coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had 4,227 cases, an increase of 53 cases from the week before, or a 1.3 percent hike. The previous week, it was 1.8 percent.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst increased by one in the last week, to 66. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.6 percent.

Elmhurst's rate of increase of 1.3 percent was lower than DuPage County's hike of 1.6 percent in the last week. Elmhurst makes up 5.2 percent of the county's population and 5.2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 90.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 77.8 in Darien, 80.7 in La Grange Park, 87.4 in DuPage County, 88.1 in Western Springs, 88.4 in Hinsdale, 95.7 in Clarendon Hills, 96.3 in suburban Cook County, 100.8 in Burr Ridge and 111.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,321,033, up 1.7 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 21,826 state residents.

Nationally, 31.8 million people have caught the virus, up 1.3 percent from the week before. A total of 568,237 people have died from the virus in the United States.
