Elmhurst Sees Lowest Growth In Virus Cases In Months: County
The number of coronavirus deaths in Elmhurst is up by one.
ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw its smallest weekly increase in coronavirus cases since early October, according to the latest numbers from the DuPage County Health Department.
As of Sunday, the city experienced 103 new coronavirus cases in the last week, or a 3.2 percent increase, for a total of 3,372. That is down from the previous week's 5.6 percent.
Since early October, the number of local coronavirus cases has more than tripled in Elmhurst. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst since the pandemic's beginning was at 55, up one from a week before.

Elmhurst's rate of increase of 3.2 percent was lower than DuPage County's hike of 3.6 percent in the last week. Elmhurst makes up 5.2 percent of the county's population and 5.2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 72.1 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 60.1 in La Grange Park, 61.5 in Darien, 63.3 in Western Springs, 66.1 in Hinsdale, 70.7 in DuPage County, 74.3 in Clarendon Hills, 77.9 in suburban Cook County, 80.9 in Burr Ridge and 87.4 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,064,667, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 18,179 state residents.
Nationally, 23.7 million people have caught the virus, up 7.5 percent from the week before. A total of 394,495 people have died from the virus in the United States.

As of Monday, Elmhurst Hospital was caring for 48 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, according to the hospital. That was nine more than a week ago.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 155 people have died from the coronavirus at the facility. The number is up by seven from a week ago.
Since March, 1,311 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital following treatment for confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the hospital. Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.
