Elmhurst Sees Most Virus Cases In 2 Months: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst is seeing the most new coronavirus cases in two months, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 5,261 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 62 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 44 new cases.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst increased by one in the last week, to 71. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.3 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 113 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 97 in Darien, 110 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 113 in La Grange Park, 119 in Clarendon Hills, 120 in La Grange, 122 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County, and 133 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,735,586, a 1.3 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 26,077.

Nationally, 46.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 759,552 people have died from the virus in the United States.
