Elmhurst Sees Most Virus Cases In Month: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst is seeing more coronavirus cases than it has in a month, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 5,199 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 44 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 27 new cases.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 70. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.3 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 111 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 96 in Darien, 109 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 110 in La Grange Park, 117 in Clarendon Hills, 121 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County and 123 in Burr Ridge.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,712,986, a 1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,948.

Nationally, 46.4 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 751,535 people have died from the virus in the United States.
