Elmhurst Sees New Low In Virus Cases For 3rd Week In Row: County
The city experiences another coronavirus death in the last week.

ELMHURST, IL — For the third week in a row, Elmhurst set another low in new coronavirus cases since the beginning of the crisis.
As of Sunday, the city saw 29 new coronavirus cases in the last week, or an increase of eight-tenths of 1 percent, for a total of 3,611. That is down from the previous week's hike of 1.4 percent.
The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst increased by one over the last week, to 59. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.6 percent.

Elmhurst's rate of increase of eight-tenths of 1 percent was lower than DuPage County's hike of 1.3 percent in the last week. Elmhurst makes up 5.2 percent of the county's population and 5.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Elmhurst has 77.2 coronavirus cases per thousand people. The figure compares to 67.8 in Darien, 68 in La Grange Park, 69.9 in Western Springs, 74.2 in Hinsdale, 76.3 in DuPage County, 80.2 in Clarendon Hills, 84.4 in suburban Cook County, 88.6 in Burr Ridge and 94 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,162,154, up 1.4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 19,961 state residents.
Nationally, 27.4 million people have caught the virus, up 2.5 percent from the week before. A total of 482,536 people have died from the virus in the United States.

As of Monday, Elmhurst Hospital was caring for 20 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, according to the hospital. That is down by five from the previous week.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 168 people have died from the coronavirus at the facility. The number is up by four from a week ago.
Since March, 1,479 patients have been discharged from Elmhurst Hospital following treatment for confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the hospital. Elmhurst Hospital's patient base covers an area far greater than Elmhurst itself.
