Elmhurst Sees Normal Virus Case Hike: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw nine new coronavirus cases in the last week, up from the previous week, according to statistics from the DuPage County Health Department.

This number is similar to previous weeks, despite a national trend showing cases are ticking up slightly.

As of Sunday, the city had 4,440 cases. The week before last, Elmhurst saw an increase of eight cases.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 68. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 95 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 82.1 in Darien, 88.6 in La Grange Park, 92.1 in DuPage County, 93.7 in Hinsdale, 99.3 in Western Springs, 100.4 in Clarendon Hills, 102.7 in suburban Cook County, 105.5 in Burr Ridge and 122 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,402,763, up 0.1 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 23,377.

Nationally, 33.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 0.1 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 606,618 people have died from the virus in the United States.
