Elmhurst Sees Surge In Felony Drug Arrests

ELMHURST, IL – Over five days, Elmhurst police arrested 10 people on felony drug possession charges, an unusually high number.

The arrests – seven men, three women – were made in nine separate incidents from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.

One suspect was from Chicago, while the rest were from the suburbs. In one stop, police arrested two Elmhurst residents – a 31-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman who live in the 600 block of South York Street.

Why the sudden surge in such arrests?

Elmhurst Deputy Police Chief Brett Kaczorowski said most resulted from an organized law enforcement effort.

"Several local area suburban law enforcement agencies worked together to interdict dangerous drugs, such as fentanyl, that are being transported from Chicago into the area suburbs, including Elmhurst, along the I-290 expressway," Kaczorowski said in an email to Patch.
